SOUTH is passionate about:
• Handmade & unique. In Africa, creating jobs means hope, survival and less crime. Handmade means every single design is unique. The craftsmanship can be appreciated in the attention of details and felt in the care, in which a design is made. We really care about making a difference through design.
• Original. We source original designs and no copy-cats. We are proud of our creative & award winning designers and promote their work.
• Fair Trade. We work according to the fair trade principles. Some of our larger businesses are fair trade accredited but our smaller businesses do not have the resources to achieve formal fair trade accreditation. However, before we source from a business we always assess their working practices to ensure that they are adopting the principles of fair trading. Through our system of paying a fair price and prefinance up to 50% of all our orders we ensure that our designers always have sufficient funds to cover their costs and do not incur debt to produce our orders.
• Earth friendly. We are sensitive and responsible in our impact on planet earth, recycling where we can, making environmentally aware choices, and making use of sustainable resources wherever possible.
• Education. Our creations have been designed and handcrafted within businesses which truly care about development and education of (previously) disadvantaged people.
• Africa. We aim to showcase this fascinating, beautiful & creative continent which has so much to offer the world.
• Animals. We are passionate about animals and will never knowingly make use of any component which has caused suffering or the abuse of animals.
• Integrity. We care about old fashioned values like honesty, accountability and transparency. We don't claim to be perfect or to have arrived, but we are on the journey to get there.
